Saturday:
11:00-1:30 pm: Ayurvedic Theory and Yoga Practice
1:30 – 2:30pm: Ayurvedic lunch
2:30 - 5pm: lecture and discussion                                                                             

Sunday:
12:00-2:30pm: Ayurvedic theory and Yoga Practice
2:30-3:30pm: Ayurvedic lunch

Part One: Menstrual Mayhem – Managing Menstrual Disharmony

November 27 - 29
Friday 6-9pm

Tuition is $299 which includes two Ayurvedic lunches.    


Course Description:

Menstrual disharmony is a common concern of women in western countries.   The experience of pain, inconsistency and emotional variability, is linked to nutrition, lifestyle, constitution, and our relationship to this precious female time.  In its most balanced state a women’s moon time follows a predictable rhythm that reflects the movement of the moon and occurs with gentleness and ease. Through an exploration of our personal experience and the wisdom of Naturopathic and Ayurvedic Medical approaches to care, participants will learn practical tools, including yoga practices and a nutritious lunch, for enhancing health during this sacred time of the month.

Practice/homework  

Homework will be suggested to help integrate the practices that were covered in the classes. The practices will be simple and easy to assimilate into daily life.  While not mandatory, daily and weekly practice will enhance and integrate the benefits and wisdom of these practices.

Course Structure – 3 basic themes

  • Understanding menstruation through the female lifecycle.  Exploring personal, social, cultural, spiritual and environmental perspectives on our Moon Time
  • The Sacred Feminine – Exploring our relationship to the divine feminine
  • Practical remedies found in Naturopathic Medicine, Ayurveda and Yoga for addressing symptoms of disharmony with our Menses

Friday:  Reclaiming the Wisdom Within

Theory

  • Menses through the ages; changing perspectives on femininity
  • Understanding menstruation through the female lifecycle – Anatomy and Physiology
  • Sadhana, the role of daily practice in maintaining and restoring health
  • Introduction to Shakti and the Feminine divine

Yoga

  • Introduction to an Ayurvedic approach and the doshas
  • Yoga practices that connect us to and strengthen Shakti Prana

Saturday – The Sacred Feminine

Theory

  • An introduction to a holistic approach to health care
  • The Doshas – Individualizing our approach to menstruation through Ayurveda and the Constitutional Types
  • Practical tools to treat menstrual disharmony – exploring lifestyle and nutrition

Yoga

  • Practices that support an individualized approach to menstrual care – The doshas and asana practice.
  • Practices that can aid in the treatment and prevention of menstrual disharmony – cramping, heavy bleeding, irregular bleeding
  • Continued exploration of the concept of Shakti Prana.

Sunday: Practical Remedies

Theory

  • Practical tools to treat menstrual disharmony – exploring lifestyle and nutrition
  • Practical remedies -  Herbs and Supplements
  • Review and Question and Answer

Yoga

  • Individualizing our yoga practices
  • Review of practices taught in the previous classes


Part Two: Wise women – Menopause & Beyond

Date: Saturday May 1st 2010

Time: 10:00-5:30pm

Cost: $144, includes Ayurvedic meal and class workbook

Course Description:

As we enter into the later years of our lives, we bring with us the knowledge and wisdom we have gained through our walk along the earth. In ancient times, as elders in our communities we were honored for our insight and cared for as we cared for others. Imbalance in this aspect of our life cycle is tied intimately to our belief systems, improper lifestyle, and a disconnection from the rhythms of nature.  This one day workshop emphasizes simple and effective tools for decreasing discomfort during our elder years.   Drawing from the wisdom of Naturopathic and Ayurvedic Medicine, participants will be given useful and practical remedies, including yoga practices and a nutritious lunch, to create harmony in our elder years.

This class is appropriate for women in perimenopause, menopause and any woman looking to prevent disharmony in her elder years.

Yoga

  • Practices that strengthen and support Shakti Prana  

  • Chandra Namaskar, Restorative Yoga postures, Pranayama and Mudra practices

  • Practices that can aid in the treatment and prevention of disharmony during Menopause – working with hot flashes, mood irregularity, irregular menstrual bleeding

Course Description:

As part of our sacred contract, women are entrusted with the quickening of conception. Our relationship to carrying the divine spark of life, is paramount to the health of our families our communities, and the earth herself.   Whether you are looking to prevent conception or enhance your ability to do so, this course seeks to reconnect women to themselves and to their divine and innate creativity.  Exploring perspectives and tools drawn from Naturopathic and Ayurvedic Medicine, participants will be introduced to principles and practices, including yoga practice and a nutritious lunch, supporting health and balance in our fertile years.

  • Practical tools for working with fertility:  charting, temperature, and tools for understanding our fertile time
  • Introduction to Ayurveda and the Doshas as a tool to understanding our individual nature
  • Practical remedies for addressing fertility and infertility – Introduction to Lifestyle, Nutrition, Herbs, as they relate to infertility

Yoga

  • Yoga practices that connect us to and strengthen Shakti Prana - exploring the spark of life
  • An Ayurvedic perspective on asana practices for fertility
  • Pranayama and Mudra practice


Magic of the Moon Asana Series

This 8-week pre-registered session focuses on yoga practices that are specifically structured and designed for women, and will build upon, embody, and enhance the principles presented in the MOM workshop series. These classes will focus on Yoga postures that strengthen and support Shakti prana, (the female or  yin aspect of the body). Drawing from yoga’s sister science Ayurveda, this series will look at postures that enhance and support each individual person's unique constitutional requirements. Learning to work both with Restorative postures and flowing sequence,(Vinyasa) to ease stress, increase energy, and clear the mind.  Participants will also learn simple breathing techniques (Pranayama) to help ground and calm the mind and body
