Dennison's "other" career
is as an acting coach, working in the principles
of the transformative. Her beautiful
website is
www.transformativeacting.com. The
following is an excerpt from it:
I began my training as an
actor at Northwestern University, (Evanston,
Illinois) where I studied Stanislavski method
with Bud Beyer, and took my bachelors in
performance studies with highest honors. At
Northwestern, I studied directing with Frank
Galati, and interpretation with Leland Roloff.
In London England. I turned to physical
theatre: training in Grotowski technique with
Bert Van Dyke, and Alchemical theatre with
Enrique Pardo. For several crazy months of
masked gods, I took part in ritual theatre on
the Navajo Reservation in Arizona In Vermont,
I took up the discipline of puppets and mask
with Bread and Puppet Theatre. In Toronto, I
published a novel. In Wisconsin I ran two
theatre companies, directing Chekhov to
Shakespeare to unknown playwrights. In
Wisconsin and Germany, I danced Contact Improv.
In India, and America, I learned as much about
acting (by learning so much more about being)
from my spiritual teachers - the Dalai Lama,
Geshe Michael Roach, Charles Anderson - and
through my training and work as a yoga
instructor – with Kim Schwartz, Ramanand Patel,
Darren Main - as I did from my early acting
coaches. I am indebted to all of this in my
teaching, as well as to my students and the
years of “exploration, the laboratory, “trying
anything.”
